The president of the Senate, Senator David Mark yesterday put the inclusion of punitive sanctions for libel as the minimum requirement on which the Senate would consider the passage of the Freedom of Information (FoI) Bill as desired by stakeholders.
Receiving the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye in his office yesterday, Senator Mark nevertheless gave hope of the Senate finding a common ground between the Senate and stakeholders on the FoI Bill on the bill.
Mr. Adefaye who is editor of Vanguard had earlier in his remarks noted that the FoI bill was not for the sole benefit of the media as he noted that it was aimed to benefit all Nigerians and help establish a more open and transparent system of governance.
