The campaigns and elections that unshered in the 2008 executives of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) generated peculiar challenges:the need to further professionalise the NGE and re-position it alongside other professional bodies like the NBA, ICAN, etc; the need to put proper structures in place for the smooth running of the Guild and earning the deserved respect for Nigerian editors and journalism practice.

The first response to these challenges is to open up the Guild to members and be as transparent as possible  about its affairs. Proper records must be kept in its archives and made accessible  to all members. Rigorous debates about activities of the Guild should be encouraged. Merit must be rewarded and infractions frowned upon. Members must be engaged and briefed promptly. There is a compelling need to create an active network of editors, debating their profession, discussing the NGE, seeking opportunities for empowerment. We are as good as we project ourselves.

A virtual office was a promise made to members during the campaign. Here it is a promise kept. Welcome to an interactive Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) at www.nigerianguildofeditors.com. I have taken my own email address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please register your own account today and let us constructively engage ourselves for a more vibrant Nigerian Guild of Editors.

Sincerely,
Gbenga Adefaye
President.
